A Question of "Style"
When I first started out in the field of photography, I had little in the way of props, costumes or settings. Only a camera, some lights and a couple of bed sheets to use for backgrounds. Oh, how times have changed from those bygone days, haven't they?
Not so much as you might think...
True, I own a more advanced camera now. But I'm still using the very same lights I first purchased; and some of the photos displayed on this site were taken very recently...using a bed sheet as the background.
Expensive equipment and accessories are not the mark of a good photo. I believe in letting the subjects of my photographs speak for themselves. To that end, I usually do not use fancy props and costumes, or elaborate and flashy settings like "The Bedroom", "The Stable" or "The Football Field", for example.
This is especially true for Glamour portraits. The model is the focal point of the entire image, so I will usually try to convey the mood or tone of the photo solely through their pose and expression.
There is also a current trend in photography to alter or enhance the photograph through digital software. To the average layman, this gives the photos a "polished, professional" look. This is not something I choose to do. Don't misunderstand; I do not condemn this style of alteration in any way, as I've seen many excellent photographs of this type! It is simply not my style. I prefer to keep the natural, original look to my photos.
I realize that, to some people, this may make my work appear less than professional. But I place my trust in your ability to see beyond this to the actual beauty of the image. To it's "Style", if you will :)
